Self Confession [Part 1]

I put my interest on Physics since I was in my second year in Senior High School, but I never thought to take a
bachelor's degree in Physics education. Since the high school I have dreamed to be an engineer in the software engineering or in computer.

I was frightened not to be an university student and that was the real reason why I put my second choice to Physics Education in Unimed on the nearly last time of SPMB 2007. I hoped that I could be a university student whether or not the
field of interest was my real dream. And, here it is, I passed all way here .

I was suffered in my first year. I really wanted to leave all of this if I could. But in fact I continue my study and survive until this last term. But I still keep my dream alive in my heart, nothing seems could distinguish it.

So, I joined some communities in Medan related to Operating system and technology, they are Linux User Group Indonesia-Medan (LUGI-Medan,Bhs Indonesia: Kelompok Pengguna Linux Indonesia-Medan) and IT Community Unimed. I joined both community just to make sure that I will never forget my real passion, Computers and Algorithms (Software).

And something for good, I am still searching for the big relation of Physics and GNU/Linux, the field that probably I will be interested in more than ever. I read in the Internet that Physician use GNU/ Linux servers to run their Quantum Physics software—I still have no idea about it. I read that even the Fermilab in USA and LHC in Geneva are using GNU/
Linux in their servers to run large scale of research. This must be really interesting.

Okay, and now all the things resulted one big thing to me: I don't think that to be a teacher is my real desire.

But here, I will describe a little about my situation in Physics Education. Our learning activities (in class-room) here were

really varied. There are many learning-models that the lecturer applied in the class-room.

According to my experience, the most applicably learning-model here was the Direct Instruction Model and
Cooperative-learning. Nearly every courses do this.

Until now on, I realize that I'm not really good in Physics—regardless of what learning model was used.
There are so many advanced-physics courses that I do not master, thought I got a good grade for them, say “B”. They are Mathematical Physics, Quantum Physics, Electrodynamics, Thermodynamics, Matriks Ruang Vektor,
and Modern Physics.

And in this term, I face three other fundamentals, Introductory to Nuclear Physics, Introductory to Solid Physics, and Introductory to Statistical Physics. This term is really a term of challenge. I promise my self
to review all the Physics Education has offer me. It is the time to debug the bugs in my head. To review all the wrong codes that I have written and to repair the algorithms that have caused error.

And to everything, nothing could I say other than this: “Learning!” I will continue to learn not only to learn new things but also to learn not to forget old things. I will continue to learn about life-- that probably will take a life time to understand.

I really miss it, pasti berdebu....

Many stories in PPL, I'll share it at later time for sure, tapi ini ada beberapa beberapa desain kenang2an yang mungkin sebentar lagi berubah jadi jaket....hehe.

$ cd /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications
$ ls

# echo /usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop > /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/thunderbird

JRENG..JRENG... ini hasilnya:

Jadi, sekarang lebih praktis rasanya buka Thunderbird, hehe.

The Art of Teaching

Okay, I've been here again in Berastagi.

Today, I went to LP3M Berastagi and I had a little conversation with my English teacher. Well, we discussed many things, including the 2010 UAN Tragedy, farming, and teaching, and many, more.

And, while we had the conversation, his students come and we stopped our discussion then he taught. First, he arranged their positions to make him organize the class well. Well, this class is quite special for me. I noticed that there were four students in the classroom and each of them had different lesson. One 'played' with TOEFL-preparation post-test, second-one with TOEFL preparation, the third one with a Bahasa Indonesia-English translation lesson, and another one with I-forget. I noticed how he taught. And after he had a break, I asked him, "Sir, I saw each student in this classroom has different lesson. How could you taught all the lesson?"--approximately that was the I said, hehe.

He replied, "Well, do you know, that's what I said as the art of teaching?"

"Well, sir, it's the first time I hear that term." (Yeah, I don't know its definition)

"There is three-know in teaching, know the lesson, know your student, and know your self."

"Yeah, that's what we call teaching competence in University, Sir!"

"Yes, and you know, you must be ready to teach in any condition, time, and places when you master this three-know. First, you have to know the lesson well and that will make you be able answer any question given by your student. And do you know now what is the art of teaching?"

"Uhh, I don't know, sir, hehe, I still can't get it"

"The art of teaching is learning."

"Learning?"

"Yeah, learning...."

"Yeah, a teacher makes the student learn."

"It's not just that, but you learn! You learn from your student, you learn every time you teach. And that is how you know them, so that you can teach in any condition. And that's Taoism's Ying and Yang. You'll see the dark side when you know the bright side. And they are parallel. So, when you commit to teach then you have to learn!"

"I see, sir, I got it! Yeah, we need to know our student."

"You are now still a young teacher, when you are going to teach, you will make a teaching plan, right? And you will implement the procedure step by step in the classroom and may be you still have no self-confidence to stand in front of the classroom... When you have more experience, you will need that no more, cause you have already master the three-know. And that's it!"

"Hmmm, yes, sir, the art of teaching..." (I was imagining.....)

Then, suddenly, "bbeeep..bbeep..." His cell phone ringing, he got a text-message from a friend in Bogor asking whether he would go to Bogor this coming week.

(That was approximately what we talked as-far-as I remember, hehe)

Well, what could I say... Every time I have a discussion with him, he gives me new perspective. A new way to look and think of what we deal with. And it's inspiring me.

Well, yes, sir, I'll be a dedicated teacher in the future, no matter what field I will be in....

Paskah di Berastagi

Kemarin, menjelang paskah, kita libur selama tiga hari, jadi long weekend-lah... Okay, saya pulang kampung lagi.

Haleluya!

Cudu, menghangatkan badan di subuh yang dingin

Mendengarkan khotbah sambil cudu.

Unimed Pakai Linux Ubuntu

Unimed kayaknya mulai melirik-lirik pemakaian software lisensi bebas, nih...

Saya pake Ubuntu Linux 9.10 (karmic Koala)
